Morciano di Leuca Italy

Morciano di Leuca is a town and comune in the province of Lecce, in the Apulia region of south-east Italy. The origins of Morciano di Leuca probably date back to the 9th century AD, linked to the destruction of the city by the Saracens. In 1190, King Tancred of Sicily granted Sinibaldo Sambiasi the fiefdom of Morciano, which remained in his family’s hands until the 13th century. It was later taken over by other barons, including Walter VI of Brienne (1335).
