Alta Ribagorça Spain

Alta Ribagorça is one of the counties (comarques) of Catalonia, Spain. Its capital is Pont de Suert. The highest peak is Comaloformo (3,030 meters above sea level) in the Bessiberri massif. In the northeast of the region lies the western part of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, connected to the Aran Valley through the Vielha tunnel. The Catalan Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí are UNESCO World Heritage Sites (since November 30, 2000). Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, in the northeastern part of the area, attracts a significant number of visitors. The local Ribagorçan dialect is a variety of Catalan with some transitional features toward Aragonese.
