Cassino Italy

Cassino is a town (comune) in the province of Frosinone in central Italy, at the southern end of the Lazio region and the last city of the Latin Valley. Cassino lies at the foot of Monte Cairo, near the confluence of the Gari and Liri rivers. The city is best known as the site of the Abbey of Montecassino and the Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II, which caused heavy Allied and German casualties and almost completely destroyed the town. Cassino is also home to the University of Cassino.
