Gallarate Italy

Gallarate is a city and municipality in the Alto Milanese area of Lombardy and the Milan metropolitan area, in northern Italy, within the Province of Varese. It has a population of about 54,000 people. It is a railway junction for lines to Varese, Laveno and Arona (toward the Simplon). About 10 kilometres (6 miles) to the west are the Vizzola power plants, where 23,000 horsepower are produced from the Ticino River. Its territory is crossed by the Arnetta River and is part of the Ticino River Natural Park. The city had a strong textile industry in the first part of the 19th century. Like other nearby towns, such as Casorate Sempione and Samarate, its name comes from Latin.
