Saint-Raphaël France

Saint-Raphaël is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France. Immediately to the west of Saint-Raphaël is the older town of Fréjus, and together they form an urban area known as Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël. The Var department is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, often abbreviated as PACA. In the second half of the 19th century, the town came under the influence of Mayor Félix Martin and writer Alphonse Karr. Thanks to their efforts and the area’s favorable climate, Saint-Raphaël developed into a seaside resort popular with artists, athletes, and politicians. Saint-Raphaël is the seat of the Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël canton, which is the economic and cultural center of eastern Var and is located in the arrondissement of Draguignan. Its inhabitants are called Raphaëlois in French, or Rafelencs in Provençal Occitan.
